2006 EMS Report

INTRODUCTION
This report considers the input data for 2006 and presents considerations on them as well as opportunities for improvement in 2007.
Dekra conducted an inspection in December 2006, the result of which was positive.
The EMS had been implemented efficiently in terms of operations, routine activities and more “managerial” improvement activities.

ACHIEVEMENT OF EMP TARGETS

The following plans to improve the organisations environmental performance were put forward for 2006:

  • Purchase of an aluminium chip briquetting machine. The aim was to improve certain managerial and operational aspects connected with the handling and storage of turned aluminium parts. Since these criticalities were tackled and solved in another way, the purchase of this system is considered superfluous, so the project has been “frozen” for the time being.
  • Purchase of a tumbler liquid waste treatment system. This machine was used by a Metal Work subcontractor up until the end of 2006 and was moved back to the company in January 2007. We need to wait until the machine has been working for at least six months before we can assess its real advantages in environmental terms. The project has therefore been put off for 6 months and will be re-proposed in 2007.

TRAINING AND COMMUNICATION
Five environmental training sessions were held in 2006. Three of them involving operators, regarded their work instructions. And the other two were for groups of new employees. A training session on the Emergency and Evacuation Plan was also held for all operators and the heads of the various functions.

EXTERNAL REQUESTS
Metal Work noted that Legislative Decree no. 152/06 had come into force, but postponed modifications of current operations to 2007, after its definitive enactment.
No particular requests or solicitations on environmental issues were received from the community or our customers.
There were no visits by the inspection bodies.
The environmental aspects identified initially were upgraded following introduction of the tampography system, but this activity is not associated with significant effects on the environment.
The Environmental Policy, which was modified in 2003, is still considered to be appropriate.

ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE DATA AND INDICATORS
All the data and indicators shown in this section concern the whole of 2006.
Number of contraventions: 0
Number of incidents: 0
Exceeding the limits on the total analyses made: none
Number of complaints/reports from the parties involved: 0

The attached graphs show some of the indicators.
The four graphs below plot the emission test results for perchloroethylene, water waters (the test results are plotted as a percentage of the legal limits for suspended solids, mineral oils, total surfactants, copper, zinc and chemical oxygen demand, an index of the water sample’s organic content) and oil mists (for each of the four points of emission – graph not in scale).
