2003 REPORT ON THE EMS
Review on the anvironmental management system
INTRODUCTION
This review is based on the figures for 2003. The analysis has led us to make certain considerations and propose improvements for 2004.
Dekra s recertification visit took place on November 27th and 28th 2003 and the results were positive. The findings show that the company s Environmental Management System (EMS) is implemented efficiently in terms of operations and routine activities.
ACHIEVEMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLANNING TARGETS
For 2003, the company set itself the task of implementing two projects:
- Installation of a timer on the heating system: the project has been completed, but before can assess the actual energy saving (in terms of m3 of methane gas), need to have the final figures for the whole winter.
- Replacement of the compressors with new, more efficient ones: this project was completed and the system underwent physical modifications. Part of the improvement was absorbed by the power consumption of new production equipment and machinery purchased during the year.
TRAINING AND COMMUNICATION
Training sessions for newly-hired personnel were conducted in 2003 and covered EMS general principles and operational aspects connected with their tasks. Environmental sensitization sessions are conducted periodically for operators in all areas in order to increase their culture and collaboration in this area as well.
Following changes in the internal management of differentiated waste collection, the person in charge of the waste disposal area also underwent training.
EXTERNAL REQUESTS
There were no changes in the laws on environmental issues that had a significant effect on our EMS from a legislative point of view.
No particular requests or demands were received from the community or from our customers.
No visits were made by the controlling bodies.
ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE DATA AND INDICATORS
All the data and indicators of this section refer to the whole of 2003.
Number of violations = 0
Number of accidents = 0
Number of analyses exceeding the limits = 0
Number of claims/complaints from the parties involved = 0
Some indicators are shown in the graphs.
The following four graphs show the trend of the emissions analysis results: for perchloroethylene, waste waters (the results of the analyses are plotted as a percentage of the legal limits for suspended solids, mineral oils, total surfactants, copper, zinc and chemical oxygen demand -COD-, an index of the organic content of the water sample), and oily mists (for each of the four points of emission – graph not in scale).
